Jeepney sign

Dear Rubber Shoes

Have you ever experienced losing something that is so important to you? The feeling of regret lingers in your mind while you try to sleep.

I never really liked shoes. I'd always tell my friends that I would always pick comfort before fashion 'cuz ever since forever, I think of shoes as fashionable BUT painful.

I've always worn slippers with anything - casual shirts, dresses, shorts. My feet can't stand shoes. It just doesn't feel comfortable.

My mom keeps on buying me shoes because "It'll look good on me" but I just can't seem to be comfortable with them.

My feet would always look so dirty because it's always exposed to dirt.

One day, I saw this shoe from a store in Alabang. Right there and then, I knew I was in love with it! I bought it on the spot without trying it on (It was friday and I had to go to work ASAP) and was hoping that my feet will be comfortable with it. Foolish, right?

But guess what? It did fit! and.. It was so comfortable, i wore it with anything! It looked old so fast because I would wear it at work or at the mall almost all the time..

It's been with me for one month when I did the biggest regret of my life. I wore it on my trip to Iloilo and Boracay.

I thought I had the best trip of my life! I enjoyed every single moment of my vacation.

Since it's Boracay, I accidentally got it wet so I decided to put it to dry in my hotel room's veranda.
The next thing I knew, it's gone! Someone must have took it. I was so upset because I know that was the last pair in the store.

Until now, everytime I come across that shoe store, i'm still hoping that I will find that shoe. The only shoe that caught my eye and comforted my feet. The shoe that kept my feet clean and fresh even after a very long walk.

But deep down, I know it's still not my shoe. Even though I might find a shoe that looks exactly the same, It's still not the same as MY DEAR RUBBER SHOES.

My first shoe opened me up. Now, I appreciate what shoes can do for me!

I guess that's how life goes. You should enjoy every second of the people or things that you love because you'll never know when will you have them with you and if you'll ever find someone or something to replace it.

The New Me

Braces and Acne Free!
(please click the photos to enlarge)

I'm Joana C. Brusas and a GLUTAMAX user.My life is like a roller coaster ride. To be quite honest, I used to have inferiority complex because of what have happened to me growing up.

At the age of 4, I almost died because of blood poisoning. (That's what you get from eating dirty food). I remember struggling just to keep myself awake. I also remember how my mom would stand by me all the time. Luckily, I survived that devastating phase of my life but with a consequence. I suffered a partial brain damage and was not able to speak for 1 year.

After that, everything changed. I started feeling inferior compared to others.

As time passes by, I began to trust myself more, with the help of my friends, family and love ones.

At the age of 10years old, I had braces. It was so hard for me. I got thinner and thinner. I felt like an outcast and people keep on teasing me "kabayo" because I was so thin. But I didn't let them get into my head.
Highschool days were fun and exciting. I still had my braces until I was in 2nd year. Thanks to my friends, I got over the teasing.

I spent my senior year in Pennsylvania, USA as an exchanged student. I strived hard just to get the scholarship from Rotary Club. I had to leave everything I had in the Philippines and become an ambassador in USA. That's tough for a 15 year old teenager like me.

During my stay in Pennsylvania, the Lord tested me once more when my appendix bursted. My family cannot come to the USA because of financial reasons so I kept myself strong.

With this experience, I learned to become more confident with my self again and independent.

Unfortunately, at 20 years old, while in college. My hormones suddenly kicked in and acne started to build up on my face and back and everywhere! I was so upset. I saved my allowance for facial treatments in BELO, Let's Face It, name it. I tried everything. I even tried putting calamansi and ice on my face but nothing seems to work. Everyday, my self confidence started fading. I can't even get out of our house because of embarrassment.

That's when my mom (my angel!) found out about YSA Skin Care. Since the year 2003, Ysa has been taking care of my skin for me. They also introduced me to Glutamax.

Glutamax did not only lightened my skin evenly, it also helped my pimples to dry out and pimple scars to eventually fade! Glutamax gave me so much more! It transformed me from being insecure to a new Joana - confident and happy me!

I've been experiencing changes all my life. The best lesson that I learned from these changes is to accept myself for who I am. I learned that if I can love myself, eveything will fall into place. Self-Confidence indeed is the secret to success and hapiness that I've been dreaming of!

Now, I am transformed. Thanks to my love ones, Ysa Skin Care (Alabang and Sta. Rosa Branch) and of course, Glutamax, I can now do the things that I love without having to worry about my skin! No more acne for me!

Gimme your best shot from yugatech.com

Okay, I have to admit that running a huge giveaway/contest is such a tedious job in terms of logistics especially if you have several hundreds (over 700+) entries to comb thru. Nevertheless, we’ll continue to do our give-away every month. So here’s Round #2 of the YugaTech Great Gadget Giveway — Gimme your best shot!

This is your chance to get that MSI Wind U123H, the 10-inch netbook with built-in 3G powered by Globe Tattoo.

So what do you need to do? Simple.

Go to the most crowded place and have your picture taken holding the sign “Follow @abeolandres and @talk2globe on Twitter! “.
I’m looking for the best shot — the most creative, most difficult, most crowded that will draw the biggest impact.

Upload your submission on Flickr, PixLink, Picasa, Facebook, or any of your favorite photo-sharing site. I suggest to name your photos as “yugatechcontest.jpg” before uploading and/or include a tag “yugatech contest” when applicable. You can even put it on your blog and write about the ordeal of getting that difficult shot.

You can
download this PDF document and print it out to use as props. You can make your own sign too — print it, paint it, put it on a tarp, cartolina, or manila paper — be creative, sky’s the limit. (Hint: We might give special prizes to the most creative ones.)
Once you’re done, leave a comment at www.yugatech.com/blog/contests/giveaway-round-2-gimme-your-best-shot/ with the link to your entry/page.

What we’re giving away?
MSI Wind U123H — for the most difficult, most creative that draws the biggest crowd attention or impact. I’ll pick 5 finalists and ask a panel of judges (TBA) to win the top prize. The runners-up get a Globe Tattoo.

If you posted your entry on Facebook and get as many people to “Like” the photo, you win 5 Globe Tattoo and five Php500 Globe Load. That’s top 10 with the most “Likes”.

If you posted your entry on PixLink, we’ll randomly pick 5 entries to win a Globe Tattoo each.

If you blogged about your entry and linked back to this contest page, we’ll also pick 10 entries randomly to win five Globe Tattoo and five Php500 Globe call card.

I’ll be running a Google Image Search and pick 5 random images on the front page of the search results and give them a prize as well (Php500 Globe call card each). That’s the reason why I mentioned using the file name and/or tag above.

That’s 34 minor prizes and 1 grand prize so far. But wait, there’s more!

If you tweet about this contest, we’ll pick 10 winners to get 5 Globe Tattoo and five Php500 Globe call card. Just copy and paste this tweet message:
Win an MSI Wind 3G netbook! Follow @abeolandres & @talk2globe. Join the YugaTech Giveaway: http://bit.ly/cWBn3M #thanks2globe

If you’re not on Twitter but have a blog, just post a blog entry about this photo contest. Make sure to have a live link to this page and use the first picture above

I’ll pick another set of 10 winners to get 5 Globe Tattoo and five Php500 Globe call card.
Okay, that should be enough, whew! We have fifty-four (54) consolation prizes and one (1) major prize — an MSI Wind U123H 3G netbook that comes with a Globe Tattoo SIM card.
Some things to remember!

You can join in any or all of the giveaways above but you can only win once. If you plan to submit multiple entries, you need to submit different photos/scenarios for it to be counted. That’s it! The fewer the rules, the better.

Contest starts today, February 3, and ends February 26. Three (3) weeks should be enough for you to think of that awesome photo entry. Good luck to all!
